Have you had problems related to the economic stimulus payments, such as delayed dependent payments, identity theft or math errors on your tax returns?
Beginning August 10, 2020, the Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) will start to assist people in resolving certain issues related to stimulus payments. TAS is an independent organization within the IRS.
TAS can assist with five specific problems that people may have encountered with their stimulus payments:
- Dependent payments for parents/guardians who entered information for their dependents under age 17 at the non-filer portal, including by deadline for Social Security and SSI beneficiaries, but haven’t received $500 for dependent(s). Unfortunately, the assistance from TAS doesn’t extend to any of those who missed the deadlines to enter information about their dependent children.
- Injured spouses
- Those with math errors on 2018 or 2019 returns
- Identity theft victims
- Surviving spouses or spouses of incarcerated individuals
TAS can be reached at 877-777-4778.
For other questions about stimulus payments, the IRS hotline is available at 800-919-9835.
