Why is testing for COVID-19 important?

Testing for COVID-19 plays an important role in maintaining and tracking the spread of the virus. Testing provides people the accurate information for taking precautions to help reduce the spread of COVID-19, like quarantining. Testing if you have symptoms or have been in close contact with a person with COVID-19 works towards stopping the spread of the virus.

When should I get tested?

You should seek testing if you have symptoms of COVID-19 or have been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19. If you come in contact with an expected case of COVID-19 you should test immediately or 5 days after your suspected exposure, even if you are not experiencing symptoms.

Where should I get tested?

You can visit the WA State Department of Health for a directory of testing sites within each county. Click here to visit the site.

How can I get an at-home test?

Washington state is offering free, rapid, at-home COVID 19 test kits to eligible communities. Click here to visit the Say Yes To COVID Test site. The site is also available in Spanish (click here for the Spanish version).

The Federal government also is offering every home in the U.S. for 4 free at-home COVID-19 tests. To order your free at-home test click here.

Can I order tests from both Say YES! Covid Test through Washington state and the Federal testing kits?

Yes! If you live in the state of Washington you can place an order in both portals.

What if I do not have internet or the website isn’t available in the language I need?

You can call 1-800-525-0127 then press # for language assistance. The call center is able to order on your behalf through Washington and Federal online portals.

The website says there are no tests in stock, what do I do?

Tests may run out of stock periodically. Check back to the site regularly to see if tests are available. If you need to test immediately, visit a local testing site in your area.

Can I get an at-home test at the pharmacy?

Some health insurance companies will reimburse you for up to 8 at-home test purchased in stores. To learn more visit cms.gov/how-to-get-your-at-home-OTC-COVID-19-test-for-free.
